Drip campaign

Definition

A drip campaign is an automated sequence of messages delivered over several days, triggered by an event such as a signup, a first purchase, or an abandoned cart.

Instead of one message sent to everyone at the same time, a drip campaign starts individually for each contact when a trigger fires, then unfolds step by step: a welcome right away, a tip two days later, an offer at the end.

On WhatsApp, every business-initiated step in the sequence uses an approved message template and requires opt-in. Well-built drips also define exit conditions, so a customer who purchases or replies stops receiving the remaining steps.

Typical e-commerce drips include welcome series, post-purchase follow-ups, winbacks, and abandoned cart sequences. Kanal lets Shopify merchants assemble these flows visually, with Shopify events as triggers and templates as steps.
