Key takeaways
- The best Klaviyo alternative depends on what you want to change: the price model, the channel mix, or the channel where your customers actually reply.
- Kanal is our pick for online stores whose customers reply on WhatsApp: Pro at $89/month, Scale at $149/month, and it can also run next to Klaviyo on its segments.
- Klaviyo bills email on active profiles, $20 a month for 500 on October 19, 2026, while the alternatives bill on contacts, sends, messages or a quote.
- Omnisend is the closest like-for-like replacement for Klaviyo's email and SMS, with a free plan and Standard at $16 a month for 500 contacts.
The best Klaviyo alternative depends on what you want to change: Klaviyo's pricing, the channel mix, or the channel where your customers actually reply. For online stores whose customers answer on WhatsApp more than they open email, our pick is Kanal, a WhatsApp marketing and automation platform that goes deepest on Shopify. It can take over part of your Klaviyo program, or run next to it on your Klaviyo segments. To replace Klaviyo's email and SMS like for like, Omnisend is the closest option.
We compared 11 Klaviyo alternatives on their channels, their Shopify fit and the entry price shown on their own pricing page on October 19, 2026.
Why merchants look at Klaviyo alternatives
Klaviyo prices email on active profiles: any profile that can be emailed, whatever its consent status, according to its Help Center. On October 19, 2026, its pricing page showed email at $20/month for 500 active profiles, $150 for 10,000 and $720 for 50,000, with a free plan up to 250 active profiles and 500 emails a month. Text messages, WhatsApp and add-ons such as Customer Hub or Reviews are billed on top.
When you compare alternatives, three questions matter:
- What do you want to pay for? Some tools bill differently: by list size and send volume (Drip), by mailable contacts with unlimited sends (Privy), or by messages sent (Shopify Messaging).
- Where do your customers reply? Brands whose customers answer on WhatsApp need a tool built around that channel. Brands that sell mostly in the US and Canada may want a text messaging specialist.
- What do you actually use? A store that sends a weekly newsletter needs less than a brand running dozens of segmented flows across channels.
What Klaviyo does well
Screenshot of the Klaviyo website.
Klaviyo covers a lot of ground. Its Shopify App Store listing describes email, SMS, WhatsApp, mobile push and pop-ups in one app, real-time sync of Shopify data, more than 350 integrations, AI-powered segments and flow triggers, and a Customer Hub and Customer Agent meant to turn service moments into shopping moments. For brands whose program is built on email, that depth is a good reason to stay. In that case, adding a specialist channel next to Klaviyo can make more sense than migrating everything.
How we compared the tools
We read each tool's website and its Shopify App Store listing when it has one in September 2026, then re-read every pricing page on October 19, 2026 in a browser. Each tool was checked on four points:
- Channels: email, SMS, WhatsApp and push, as the vendor lists them.
- Pricing model: what the bill is based on (contacts, sends, messages or a custom quote).
- Entry price: the first paid plan shown on the vendor's pricing page, in US dollars, billed monthly unless noted.
- Shopify fit: the app or integration the vendor documents.
Kanal is our product and comes first because it is the option we recommend for stores that sell through WhatsApp; the other entries stay factual. Prices change often, so check the vendor's page before you buy.

The 11 best Klaviyo alternatives
1. Kanal, the WhatsApp-first alternative that also works with Klaviyo
The Kanal app: campaign report.
The Kanal app: integrations page.
Kanal is a WhatsApp marketing and automation platform for online stores. It suits brands whose customers answer on WhatsApp more than they open email: campaigns, automated flows and the replies that follow happen in the same channel, with Shopify data in every conversation. Kanal goes deepest on Shopify, where it installs from the Shopify App Store, and it also connects PrestaShop stores through its store API, with setup done by a Kanal expert.
- Campaigns: WhatsApp campaigns with images, buttons and carousels, sent to segments (order count, orders over a period, WhatsApp engagement, phone country, lists or synced Klaviyo segments), scheduled or sent now, with delivery, read, click and revenue reporting per campaign.
- Automations from store events: abandoned cart sequences with the product and a button back to the checkout, order and shipping updates, post-purchase recommendations, back-in-stock alerts and review requests.
- Replies: a shared inbox with the customer's Shopify orders, and an AI agent that answers product and order questions in more than 96 languages (Scale plan).
- Works with Klaviyo: your Klaviyo segments sync to Kanal and Klaviyo flows can send WhatsApp messages, so your email and SMS stay where they are.
- Pricing: on the Shopify App Store on October 19, 2026, Pro was $89/month (cart recovery, campaigns, inbox, 1 user) and Scale $149/month (segments, AI agent, A/B tests, SMS campaigns and the Klaviyo, Gorgias, Recharge and Crisp integrations). Meta's WhatsApp fees are passed through at cost, with no per-message markup.
Why it comes first: email reaches customers in an inbox; Kanal reaches them in the app where they reply, with your store data in every message. For a brand whose customers already write on WhatsApp, that changes more than a cheaper email plan would. Our Kanal vs Klaviyo comparison explains how the two tools fit together.
2. Omnisend, email and SMS priced on contacts
Screenshot of the Omnisend website.
Omnisend is an email and SMS marketing platform for e-commerce, with web push, popups and signup forms in the same app. For the detail, plan by plan, read Omnisend vs Klaviyo.

- SMS: from $0.007 per message on Pro. The price varies by country and volume, and the starting rate applies to high-volume US sends.
- Switching: Omnisend offers to migrate your contacts, data and segments, and lists 24/7 live chat and email support on every plan.

Shopify's Help Center prices WhatsApp per message by region, for example $0.172 for a marketing message to France and $0.106 to the United Kingdom, and since October 1, 2026, service messages beyond the monthly free allowance (1,000 per WhatsApp Business Account) are charged too. WhatsApp marketing messages cannot be sent to US customers. Costs are added to your Shopify bill.

Replace Klaviyo, or add WhatsApp next to it?
You don't have to migrate everything to change channels. Kanal integrates with Klaviyo, so you can keep email and SMS flows in Klaviyo and run WhatsApp in Kanal:
- Segments: your Klaviyo segments sync to Kanal. A VIP or win-back list built for email becomes a WhatsApp audience without rebuilding it.
- Flow triggers: Klaviyo flow events, like a welcome series or a post-purchase step, can trigger a WhatsApp message.
- Reporting: Kanal tracks WhatsApp revenue, so you can compare it with your email and SMS results.
Our Klaviyo WhatsApp integration guide walks through the setup step by step. If WhatsApp becomes your main channel, Kanal also works on its own: cart recovery and order updates run from Shopify events, and campaigns go to the segments you build in Kanal.
How to choose a Klaviyo alternative
Start from where your customers reply, then from what you want to pay for.
- Your customers answer on WhatsApp, or you want them to: Kanal, on its own or next to Klaviyo.
- You want email and SMS in one tool, priced on contacts: Omnisend, or ActiveCampaign if you also want a CRM.
- You want to stay inside Shopify: Shopify Messaging.
- You mostly send newsletters: MailerLite or Mailchimp, both with a free plan.
- List growth comes first: Privy.
- Text messaging in the US and Canada is your core channel: Postscript, or Attentive for a custom multichannel contract.
- You want email, SMS and WhatsApp in one account: Brevo (WhatsApp on Professional) or ActiveCampaign (WhatsApp plans).
Before you switch, check three things:
- Your real list size: price each tool at your number of contacts, profiles or sends, not at the entry tier.
- What moves with you: flows, segments, templates and historical data. Ask each vendor what its migration covers.
- Opt-ins per channel: a WhatsApp campaign needs WhatsApp opt-ins. Kanal collects them at checkout and on your site.
